There have been notable spinoffs as well, furthering the belief that Borderlands 3 was a solid possibility.

It wasn’t until 2015 that the Texas-based studio partially confirmed that a new game was happening, but there was still no solid word about the Borderlands 3 release date. However, we have come a long way from 2015, and right now after the eventful year we have had so far, we would say that the game is gradually closing in on us. So let us analyze those and see if we can draw a conclusion about the release date of Borderlands 3.

With our calculations, it looks like we should not be too far away from seeing an official announcement from Gearbox Software about what is to come. And it also appears that the developers have hidden clues wherever possible for fans to decipher to tease the Borderlands 3 release date, which could only means one thing. That the question surrounding Borderlands 3 is only directed at “when” and not “if.”

To recall, Gearbox had stated earlier that the next Borderlands game would go into development after they were done with Battleborn. Now, Battleborn players and fans of the series have discovered some audio clues that seems to suggest a plot point in the upcoming game. That the message was about Borderlands 3 was clear- the Vault as well as a prominent BL character was named, along with the suggestions that she was not at all what she seems to be. So Gearbox’s attempts at keeping the hype alive has to mean something.

Moreover, thanks to Gearbox’s reveals over the last few months, we think that Borderlands 3 is now actively in production. Not only do the creators want to take the game’s look to a whole new level with a brand new tech they are testing on the UE4, but a lot of the things they showed looked like they were straight out of a Borderlands universe. But while that hinted that the game’s production had begun, we now have reason to think that it is already in full swing. Thanks to Randy Pitchford’s new Twitter update, we know that he is currently doing some motion capture shots for an unnamed game. It also involves shots from famed illusionist duo Penn and Teller. The way Pitchford described his character also had a very familiar sound. So yes, we have reason to believe that Borderlands 3 is very much in the making. But it is important to note that it is in its early stages of development, and it will be a while before we get an actual look at the game.

We think an announcement has been long overdue, and this non-stop teasing has been driving fans of the earlier games crazy. A lot of big new titles have already been announced for 2017, and Gearbox Software is yet to board that train with Borderlands 3. With that being said, we as fans don’t really mind the fact that the studio is taking their own sweet time with the development of Borderlands 3. What currently hurts as an almost unbearably long wait is sure to pay off later when the game finally comes out. And we all know the standards that the earlier games in the series have set for future entries. So even if Gearbox announces the game in 2017 itself, it might not come out anytime soon.

This is precisely the reason why we feel that Borderlands 3 will release in 2018, and not in 2017. Gearbox being a serious player will not take any risks for this future game. We are expecting Borderlands 3 to be a truly open game, with hard core entertainment minus any glitches. We are expecting Borderlands 3 Release Date to be in September 2018 or later.

In fact, our speculation may have even been corroborated by those responsible for the Borderlands series. If you are coming here from our homepage, then you already know it; if you are just here out of the simple curiosity of when Borderlands 3 might come out, let us be the ones to inform you that publishing titan Take-Two Interactive has confirmed in their recent earnings report that 2018 will be the year of release for one of 2K’s most successful gaming franchises.

We already know that Rockstar Games’ third addition in their famed Red Dead series is coming out in 2018, but the promise of another one of that boasts of a similar reputation definitely reminds us of Borderlands 3. This is especially because we already know that the game has been in the works for quite a while, making us almost certain that the game that Take-Two was referring to (which they had conveniently left unnamed) was none other than Gearbox’s upcoming entry in the acclaimed Borderlands series. As fans would know, the franchise is one of the successful gaming series in existence, with all its installments gaining near perfect scores from reviewers and even establishing a cult status.

So yes, it does look like Borderlands 3 is headed for a 2018 release date. Now all we have to do is to get official confirmation from Pitchford’s crew.

Coming to the Borderlands 3 platforms, it is already been hinted that the game will be built for the eight generation consoles like the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. However, while many were expecting the game to arrive in a Switch version as well, Pitchford has made it clear that it is not happening.

Whatever be the case, the good news is that Borderlands 3 release date is not too far away, and the latest we expect to see it hit the markets is during late 2018 or early 2019.
